The name "Nymphaea," the genus for water lilies, is derived from the Greek word for water nymph, water lilies, with their floating leaves and showy flowers, are often associated with serenity, beauty, and purity in various cultures. This painting was a playful scene of a model in the water her dress becoming the petals of a water lily.
